Initial Psychiatric Consultation
$900 | 75–90 minutes
Treatment begins with a comprehensive psychiatric consultation.
The initial assessment includes an exploration of current symptoms and concerns, relevant past experiences, relationships, family and medical history, previous treatment, and the broader circumstances affecting the patient's emotional health.
The first consultation is often the beginning rather than the completion of the assessment. In some cases, additional meetings, review of previous records, or—with the patient's authorization—communication with other treating professionals or family members may be helpful before a treatment plan is established.
The goal of the consultation is not simply to determine a diagnosis or select a medication, but to develop an understanding of the difficulties bringing the patient to treatment and determine what therapeutic approach is most appropriate.
Ongoing Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy is the primary focus of Dr. Figueroa's practice.
Most ongoing psychotherapy sessions are 50 minutes. Depending on the patient's needs, treatment may be scheduled weekly or more frequently.
Fees for regularly scheduled psychotherapy differ from the consultation rates above and reflect the ongoing nature and frequency of treatment. The recommended frequency of treatment and applicable fee are discussed following the initial assessment.
When medication is useful, Dr. Figueroa can prescribe and manage it as part of the psychotherapy treatment, allowing psychotherapy and medication management to remain integrated.
Psychiatric Consultations and Follow-Up
For established patients who are not engaged in regularly scheduled psychotherapy:
50-minute psychiatric consultation: $600
25-minute brief psychiatric follow-up: $300
The appropriate length and frequency of appointments depend upon the clinical circumstances.
Insurance
Dr. Figueroa participates with selected Aetna and UnitedHealthcare plans.
When Dr. Figueroa is an in-network provider for a patient's specific plan, the insurance company will be billed directly. Patients remain responsible for applicable deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, and services not covered by their plan.
Insurance participation and benefits vary by plan. Coverage should be confirmed before beginning treatment.
Out-of-Network Insurance
Patients with other insurance plans may have out-of-network mental-health benefits.
Payment is due at the time of service. We can provide the documentation necessary for patients to submit claims to their insurance company for possible reimbursement.
Patients who plan to use out-of-network benefits are encouraged to contact their insurer in advance to understand their deductible, reimbursement level, and any authorization requirements.
Use of insurance may require disclosure of a psychiatric diagnosis and, in some circumstances, additional clinical information required by the insurance company.
Professional Services Outside Appointments
Professional services requiring significant physician time outside scheduled appointments may be billed separately. These may include extended telephone conversations, preparation of reports or treatment summaries, record review, and substantial communication or coordination of care with family members or other professionals.
Cancellations
Appointments are reserved specifically for each patient.
At least two business days' notice is required to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Appointments cancelled with less notice, as well as missed appointments, are charged at the full session fee.
Insurance companies generally do not reimburse for missed or late-cancelled appointments.
